What is Club Insight? Club
Insight provides a holistic, caring environment designed to promote
rehabilitation and reintegration into the community for its members.
The program is designed to serve adults (18 and over) who are financially
and medically indigent and have been diagnosed with a serious mental
illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Club Insight
welcomes people not as clients or patients, but as members of an
organization which values their contributions and accomplishments.
A member may use the resources of Club Insight whenever needed,
at whatever level desired throughout his or her lifetime.
The individuals come from varied cultural, social and economic backgrounds
with one main challenge in common, their mental illness.
What does Club Insight Offer
Its Members? The clubhouse is open five days a week and
all holidays. Club Insight offers concrete assistance with housing,
education, job training, employment, daily living skills and a place
to socialize and share a meal with friends. Club Insight’s
four staff provide and coordinate programming in independent living
skills, pre-vocational training, and socialization for integration
into jobs and community life. The members perform all of the tasks
and chores needed to keep the clubhouse open, with guidance and
assistance from staff. These
tasks include menu planning and preparation of a nutritious lunch
each weekday, operation of a snack bar, and planning of a monthly
calendar of events.
In an effort to foster strong peer relationships,
Club Insights schedules special recreational events including outings
to Jordan Lake, visits to museums and local shopping malls, as well
as am annual beach trip. Clubhouse members plan and participate
in holiday parties held at the house.
Educational Opportunities:
Members also have the opportunity to receive and educational at
Club Insight through an agreement with Chatham County Community
College. The college provides an adult education specialist to work
with members of Club Insight. The clubhouse has a classroom set
up for learning computer skills and other educational classes.
Additional Benefits from the
Support Staff: Staff work closely with members to increase
their ability to manage financial affairs, to maintain their residents
in an appropriate manner and to receive assistance in obtaining
needed community services. Through daily contact with members, staff
is in the unique position to recognize early symptoms of stress
related to a member’s mental illness or to medications. They
can deal with a crisis that if ignored would lead to a psychiatric
hospitalization or withdrawal from service. With hospitalizations
and crises diverted, members can focus on building skills needed
for living a productive and full life. |
